Community Empowerment Internship Program

Our Community Empowerment Internship Program offers aspiring professionals the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience by shadowing our dedicated case workers. This immersive program allows interns to learn about the daily responsibilities of a case worker, including client assessments, resource referrals, crisis intervention, and program coordination.

What does the internship involve?
Interns will gain invaluable insights into the challenges and rewards of community work, develop practical skills in social services, and make a real difference in the lives of individuals and families in need. By working alongside experienced professionals, interns will build a strong foundation for a future career in human services, social work, or nonprofit management.

Who can apply?
Residents of DeKalb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Newton counties who meet income eligibility guidelines as defined below can apply for services. Applicants must be currently enrolled in college, studying social services, case management, organizational or non-profit management, or other related field.

What documents do I need?
All applicants will be required to provide ID, social security cards for all household members, proof of income for the last 30 days for all household members 18 years and older, academic transcript (if applicable), and letter of recommendation. Please note that you must have all documents to complete your application.

What is the selection process?
Prospective interns will submit their application via the above interest form accompanied by all required documentation. After applications are reviewed, selected candidates are invited to interview on-site and complete an assessment.

What is the time committment of this program?
Each participant is required to commit 20 hours per week at any time during regular business hours. Schedules will be arranged in coordination with the supervisor and academic commitments. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM.

How long is the internship?
The full internship program lasts for 12 consecutive weeks. The organization will host 2 internship cohorts.

Will I earn academic credit for participating?
PCA will not administer any academic credits, but you will gain valuable skills and experiences. Your college or university may decide to grant this internship opportunity as an academic credit. If this is the case, the organization will comply with requirements as appropriate.

Is the internship paid?
Interns will receive a stipend based on the number of hours worked. This will equate to $10 per hour.

Are there employment opportunities for full-time employment after completing the program?
Yes! Interns will be considered for permanent positions as they become available. They will have priority in applying for any new openings.

All activity will be in person at our main location, 3597 Covington Highway, Decatur, GA 30032.
