2023-2024 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Heating

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for heating is available to all income eligible households in DeKalb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, Newton, and Walton Counties. This program offers a payment once per program year to be applied to your home heating bill.


When can I apply?
All income-eligible households may apply for heating assistance beginning May 1, 2024. For households that are scheduled for service disconnection within three days, the Covington Highway location accepts a limited number of walk-ins at 7 am Monday – Friday. This is offered on a first come, first served basis.

How can I apply? 
When appointments are available, you may schedule using the BOOK NOW button below. You may also schedule an appointment through our automated phone system by calling 470-299-0341. We strongly encourage using one of these options to prevent long wait times.

Who can apply? 
Applicants must be residents of DeKalb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, Newton, and Walton counties who meet income eligibility guidelines listed below. Please note that households are only permitted to receive LIHEAP Heating assistance once per program year. If you have received LIHEAP assistance between December 1 and the present day, you will not be eligible for this benefit.

What should I bring to my appointment?
Please note that all appointments will be done in person. You must bring a valid ID, social security cards for all household members, proof of income for the last 30 days for all household members 18 and older, current heating bill (if applicable), and current electric bill. Mailed and faxed documents will not be accepted. All documents must be presented in office. If you are physically unable to attend your appointment, you may send an authorized representative to apply on your behalf with a written and signed statement along with all required documentation.


What if I miss my appointment? 
If you are more than 30 minutes late or miss your appointment, you will need to book a new appointment using our web scheduler or by calling our customer service line.

How long does this process take? 
Please allow 6-10 weeks for physical payment to be received. We ask that you continue paying your bill as much as possible during this time to prevent disconnection. If you are facing imminent disconnection, additional measures may be taken for eligible accounts to prevent loss of service. 

How can I check the status of an application that I already submitted?
